MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Shamrock Independent School District is to create diverse and varied curriculum so that ALL students will be successful and become contributing members of society in the new millennium. Shamrock ISD is committed to providing an orderly, safe, structured environment through communication among students, parents, community, and school personnel. Therefore, Shamrock ISD is dedicated to providing an opportunity for ALL students to participate in character education and to achieve excellence through academic learning experiences.
EXCELLENCE IN TECHNOLOGY
Shamrock ISD is committed to bringing the most up-to-date technological improvements to the classroom. Through the Texas Infrastructure Fund and local funds, Shamrock ISD has a Videoconference Room and 173 computers available for student and faculty use. All software and hardware is updated according to our technology plan.
PROGRAMS
Advanced Placement classes (11), Business Partnerships, Career and Technology Education (Agriculture, Building Trades, Computer, Electrical Trades, Home Economics classes), Computer Technology, Concurrent (Band, Theatre Arts), Gifted and Talented Education, Advanced Jr. High Courses, Waterford Reading Program (K-1), Pre-Kindergarten Program, Early Childhood Program, At-Risk Program, Compensatory Education Program, School-wide Title I Program, Safe and Drug-Free Schools Program, Job Shadowing Program.
Reading Program (Grades K-4)
Our reading enrichment program in our early grades is tied to the Governor's Reading Initiative. The program presently used is the Waterford Reading Program. This remediation program is designed to test and reteach through computer technology. It is a very individualized program that will reach the fourth grade by 2004.
Saxon Math (Grades 1-8)
Shamrock ISD has aggressively sought ways to enhance math skills. EXCEL Math was implemented several years ago with a move toward the Saxon Math in the last three years.
Shurley English (Grades 1-8)
Back to the Basics! Diagramming sentences, learning rules for grammar. This is a supplemental program to our regular English curriculum. Teachers are noticing an improvement in writing skills.
Accelerated Reader Program (Grades 1-8)
Now in its 7th year, the AR Program has been a big success. Approximately 300 students have checked out over 12,000 books.
Saxon Phonics
The Saxon Phonics Program is for grades K-2 and is aimed at meeting the Governor's initiative and challenge to all Texas schools that every child should be reading on grade level at the 3rd grade. Saxon Phonics has been the primary curriculum to allow students an opportunity to raise their reading levels and meet this challenge.
STAR Program
Computer based software determines students reading levels for use with the AR Program. This tool allows teachers to track student progress and challenge students to be "the best readers they can be."
Advanced Placement (Grades 9-12)
Four subject areas are offering AP credit for high school as well as testing for college credit at the same time. Staff members have attended AP Institutes in order to provide instruction.
Dual Credit (Grades 11,12)
Students are allowed to take high school credit courses and at the same time incorporate college curriculum requirements to receive post-secondary credit. Instructors have their masters degrees and credit is articulated through Clarendon Junior College.
STAR Counseling Program
In addition to providing academic counseling services are provided for students by the Texas Juvenile System at no cost. Qualified counselors provide much needed services to students and families.
Transition Counseling Services
A new service provides a transition coundelor for high school students working on the transition from school to post-secondary school and from school to work. Business partnerships are being developed and job shadowing techniques are being implemented.
